July 17, 2025 - Driving from Alaska to Maryland
Hurricane Ridge, Olympia NP
We arrived in Port Angeles in the morning. Our plan for today was to visit Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, which is just south of Port Angeles.
Our first stop was at the Olympic National Park Visitors Center.
As you can see from the map, Olympic National Park is huge. The only way to see the interior is to backpack in. It would take us three day just to see the major highlights around the perimeter.
Lots of things to do at Olympic National Park.
Great Blue Heron. We've seen these in Maryland and Florida too.
Cougar.
We started out by hiking the Cirque Rim Trail to Sunrise Point.
Then we hiked the Hurricane Hill Trail to Hurricane Hill.

We made it!
Port Angeles at center, then the Strait of Juan de Fuca. You can even see Vancouver Island in the distance.
And northeast.
We've seen a lot of wild bears on this trip but this is the first American bear we've seen.
